Fire Island Annual 5K – Run for Rose

Since its inception, TK New York has donated their time and services each year to assist the DiGangi family with producing the Annual Fire Island 5K- Run for Rose. The race is in honor of beloved wife, mother, and sister Rose DiGangi, who passed away in 2007 from a brain tumor. The 5K takes place on the well-known summer getaway spot Fire Island, running through Seaview, Ocean Bay Park, and Ocean Beach. The post-race celebration is held every year at The Schooners Inn on the edge of the Great South Bay, consisting of BBQ, beer, and live music. Raffles, a silent auction, and an awards ceremony are also part of the festivities. Each year, the race gets larger in terms of participants – now in the 500’s – as well as money raised. Since 2007, Team TK New York has helped the DiGangi family raise over $350,000 for The American Brain Tumor Association. Because of the immense community support, in 2013 the DiGangi familyincorporated its own non-profit organization, the Rose DiGangi Foundation (RDF). RDF’s mission is to minimize the financial burden of families affected by brain cancer by offering them direct financial assistance for ancillary medical costs associated with the disease. TK New York and the DiGangi family are determined to keep Rose’s spirit alive by making the Fire Island 5K a success year after year.
